A PAT test is important to have done in your working environment or homes to ensure the safety of your electrical appliances. So once the PAT test is completed, some electrical appliances will pass and some appliances will fail the test. But what happens if an appliance fails the PAT test?
Usually if an appliance fails the PAT test then it is removed if it poses a danger to others and those that own the electrical appliance will be notified.
But it is always important for the PAT testing engineer to conduct these tests properly by using the right testing equipment, tests and test conditions to the appliance that is being tested. This is because there are instances where electrical appliances may fail the PAT test but this may be due to a number of factors including:
– The use of aged PAT testing equipment
– Equipment not regularly calibrated giving off a wrong reading
– Using the wrong equipment for the type of electrical appliance it is
– The choice of tests that are carried out
However, if the electrical appliance actually fails then any visible signs of damage can be fixed with the help of the PAT testing engineer present, but if it carries any danger then it will be completely removed.
Electrical appliances that fail the PAT test will also be visibly identifiable with a red sticker showing it is not safe for use.
