Fixed electrical installation testing is important but is often disregarded by businesses. This is because it is assumed that as fixed appliances do not move around often, they do not need to be PAT tested. This is not true because fixed appliances are usually heavily used which means that they are likely to be internally damaged.
Fixed appliances are also in Class 1 of electrical appliances which are the most dangerous appliances and require a full PAT test. These include appliances like: washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, fridges, freezers, etc.
If you do not have a PAT test carried out on fixed electrical appliances, accidents can be fatal. It is reported that there are 1,000 work related accidents every year with 30 people dying from their injuries. So, it is important to have a PAT test done to ensure that all electrical appliances are safe to use.
