You can have electrical testing done in your home, which is known as PAT testing. PAT testing is carried out to ensure that all your electrical appliances in your home are safe to use for yourself and your tenants that move into your property. As a landlord, you are required to have regular PAT tests carried out to avoid any damages.
There are different types of electrical appliances in your home that are categorised into different classes. These classes are Class 1, 2 and 3.
Class 1 electrical appliances are the most dangerous and require a full PAT test. Examples of Class 1 appliances are:
– Desktop computers
– Washing machines
– Fridges
– Freezers
– Dishwashers
– Microwaves
– Toasters
– Kettles
– Irons
– Electric heaters
– Laptop cables
– Extension leads
– Mobile phone chargers
Class 2 electrical appliances have extra insulation and so they only need a PAT insulation test. Examples of Class 2 appliances are:
– Desktop printers
– Food mixers
– Lamps
– Televisions
– DVD players
– CD players
– Hair straighteners
– Hairdryers
Class 3 are low voltage appliances and do not need to be PAT tested, however their charging cables may need to be. Examples of Class 3 appliances are:
– Mobile phone chargers
– Laptops
– Cameras
– Torches
