I needed to have PAT testing done in a secondary school in London so I got into contact with the PAT Testing Association. They were helpful in arranging a meeting with me to have PAT testing engineers come to the school during the school holidays when no one is present in the building. I was aware that I needed to have PAT testing done as it is important to make sure that all electrical appliances are safe to use. This was also important to have carried out as I wanted to make sure that all children and staff are in a safe working environment and to avoid any electrical related accidents.
3 PAT testing engineers visited the secondary school on the day arranged and carried out the AT testing on all off the electrical appliances in each room. This included appliances like: desktop computers, projectors, charging leads, printers, televisions, etc. They informed me that the PAT testing involves a visual inspection, earth continuity test, lead polarity and insulation resistance checks. After each appliance was tested, a sticker was placed on the appliance to show wether it had passed or failed the PAT testing. This was helpful for myself and other staff to visibly see that each appliance is safe to use. There was only one appliance that failed which was a desktop computer. The PAT testing engineer recommended that I have it removed as soon as possible and have it replaced as it could be a danger if it is used. At the end of the PAT testing, I was issued with a certificate which showed all the results from each of the electrical appliances. I will be keeping this certificate as evidence that the school is electrically safe and making sure I have PAT testing done again in the next year.
