What does PAT stand for?

What is it?
A PAT test is the examination of your electrical appliances to ensure that they are safe to use by those in the working environments and homes. This can be done by a visual inspection however some defects are only internal which is what the PAT test is able to identify.
What is the process of a PAT test?
For a PAT test, you would have a PAT testing engineer visit you and have all electrical appliances checked. After each electrical appliance is checked, a sticker will be placed on the appliance showing if it has passed or failed. A green sticker will be placed to show it has passed and a red sticker will be placed if it fails. If an electrical appliance has failed the PAT test, if it poses a danger then it will be removed by the PAT testing engineer, however if the problem can be resolved then the engineer will do so.
A PAT test is a legal obligation as an employer and landlord you are responsible for the safety of employees and tenants, and if you fail to have PAT tests carried out this can lead to fines or even imprisonment.
