PAT testing? What is it? A PAT test is the inspection of electrical appliances to see if they are safe to use. It is carried out by someone who has the required electrical training and knows to handle the equipment and how to use it effectively. The PAT tester will test each electrical appliance individually and see if they pass or fail the tests. If the appliance passes the test it is given a green sticker and if the appliance fails the test it is given a red sticker, which may lead to it being removed from the environment if it is dangerous.
It is a legal responsibility to have PAT testing done to make sure that the electrical appliances are safe and not putting anyone in danger. It is a legal obligation however it is not clear as to how often you must conduct a PAT test and by whom, but it is a necessity to carry it out as often as required depending on the work environment equipment you have. If these legal obligations are not met then this can lead to up to 2 years’ imprisonment or a heavy financial penalty.
This can all be avoided by having a PAT test done in your work environment or home, making sure that you are working and living in an electrically safe environment.
