Pat Testing Association

Pat testing is the testing of electrical appliances to ensure that they are safe to use. A PAT test consists of a series of tests which includes a visual inspection, earth continuity, lead polarity and insulation resistance checks. Once each appliance is tested, a sticker is issued which says if it has passed or failed the PAT test.

A PAT testing engineer should carry out the PAT testing. This is because they have required knowledge and training to carry out the series of tests. They also should carry out PAT testing because they know what equipment to use, how to use the equipment and they will be able to interpret the results for you at the end of the PAT test. The PAT testing engineer will also help answer any questions you may have.
